Educated to be an educational psychologist I have been working in the field of educational innovation for over twenty years now. First as a researcher (focusing on how to facilitate blended and distance education), subsequently as an instructional designer and educational consultant within Maastricht University (UM). In 2006 Maastricht University Library took over the management of the digital learning environment (DLE) and consequently functional and didactic support making use of the DLE. The UM bases its education mainly around problem based learning, to which the implementation of the DLE has been tailored. The use of learning resources has always been an important aspect of PBL related intended learning outcomes, and the connection between DLE and the library appeared very suitable. With the growing amount of and need for digital learning resources, I got involved in several projects and nationwide initiatives connected to digital (open) learning materials, focusing on building the technical and organizational infrastructure for sharing and creating a qualitative and accessible collection for education.
